The AP house is a design project by We are Crude.

This captivating home is in Begur, Girona, where it enjoys a breathtaking view of the Costa Brava. The design is based on the concept of a sculptural work camouflaged among the native flora.

The home is meant to merge with the elements that form the landscape ‒ like the sand, light, wind, sun and ocean, that can be seen in the distance.

Hues drawn from the sunrise and sunset determined the color palette while the building itself projects shadows on the walls and on the bare flooring as the light changes.

Poured on site, the concrete structures are a pure expression of the Brutalist movement.

A central courtyard allows light to flow into all the rooms in the house. This architectural nucleus is in ongoing dialog with the outdoors, where the sand is part of the house itself, blurring the boundaries between indoors and out.

The interiors in American walnut, the different colored ceramic tiles and minimalist furnishings soften the imposing Brutalist structure that seems hard on the outside, yet reveals a soft and welcoming interior.

One of the finest examples of this can be found in the living room. The concrete ceiling creates continuity with the exterior while the Romeo sofa, designed by Antonio Citterio, and the wood-clad fireplace attenuate the austerity of the concrete and evoke a feeling of cozy warmth. The color palette consists primarily of neutral shades but more vivid splashes of color used in some parts of the living room lend freshness to the interior decor.
