Poland, House DX

A private home inspired by the concept of a total work of art.

This elegant villa located in the Polish city of Szczecin is the product of close collaboration between the client and architects Anna and Krzysztof Paszkowscy-Thurow.

Drawing inspiration from the concept of “Gesamtkunstwerk” or “total work of art”, as espoused by composer Richard Wagner, the design for this home holistically embraces landscape, architecture and interior design, while focusing meticulously on every detail.

The idea of a cluster of structures (admittedly influenced by Nordic architecture), allowed the architects to shape a building that blends harmoniously with the surrounding landscape and, at the same time, provides optimal differentiation of the various living spaces in the home.

Likewise, the interior design project is also motivated by the concept of subtraction and the use of minimalist materials, like brushed oak for the flooring and wood paneling that alternates with walls painted in a subtle shade of grey.

Many of the furnishings were custom-built based on designs by the architects, who also chose to furnish the spacious living area with a corner arrangement of the Groundpiece seating system, paired with the eponymous coffee table clad in dark brown cowhide.
