VILLA ON THE LIGURIAN SEA
This private home is located in Sanremo, a popular coastal town in northwestern Italy just a few kilometers from the border with France. The highly anthropized hillsides are dotted with palatial homes and this villa replaces a small existing building.
The design concept of Calvi Ceschia Viganò Architetti Associati is summarized as follows: “With such a developed site, we seized the opportunity to establish some balance between the visually overbearing presence of the adjoining buildings to the west and the elegance of the tree-filled garden and swimming pool (designed by landscape architect Porcinai in 1951), next to the adjacent villa on the east, designed by Giò Ponti. So, we took a circumspect approach, designing first the garden and then the house. Our key objective was to visually connect the new dwelling to the typological models of ephemeral landscape architecture and to give it the appearance, when viewed from the sea, of a small pavilion annexed to the garden of the home next door.”
Designed by Antonio Citterio, the Gregory sofa’s comfortable seating is an open invitation to relax and enjoy the splendid panoramic view. Seen here, upholstered in a sophisticated combination of cowhide and fabric, the sofa is joined by a pair of Sveva swivel armchairs, with cowhide-clad shell and fabric upholstery on the padded parts. A Fly coffee table is at the center of the composition. In the adjacent family and entertaining area, guests are invited to dine while comfortably seated on Isabel chairs, clad entirely in rust-color cowhide. First Steps bar stools, featuring woven paper rush cord seat and backrest, lend an atmosphere of sophisticated relaxation at the kitchen counter. On the terrace, the Zefiro Outdoor table is paired with Echoes chairs. The Atlante sofa and Peter Outdoor armchairs, both designed by Antonio Citterio, complete the outdoor living space decor.
