Restraint, continuity, simplicity and elegance. These are the values that drive every Flexform design project, a language that runs like a slender thread through all the collections, able to join different elements into a recognizable whole. A question of design consistency combined with a sense of belonging that unites everything and everyone – each piece has its own identity, yet they all speak the same language. A principle that is also reflected in the choice of venue to host the new Outdoor collection during Design Week – the Sant’Angelo Cloister, located in the square of the same name, in the heart of Milan. And is just steps from the flagship store, in via della Moscova 33, where the displays will be focused entirely on the Indoor collection.
Not a scenographic installation but a backdrop that amplifies the sense of the project, thanks precisely to its deep ties with an architectural vision akin to that of Flexform design. The architect was Giovanni Muzio, one of the great virtuosos of Milanese architecture from the 1920s-1940s, capable of imprinting a fresh face on the city with works like the Palazzo dell’Arte – now home of the Triennale – and the famous Ca’ Brutta. Based on an expressive austerity that rejects the superfluous, as defined by Fulvio Irace, the cloister is the consummate synthesis of his language: “chaste, verging on Hermeticism”. A syntax, formed of positive and negative space and discreet proportions, that elevates the inherent logic of the wall to poetry.
It is precisely in this balance between simplicity and the sophisticated construction of space that Flexform finds its own reflection. As in the architecture of Muzio, also in Flexform furniture there is nothing in excess, nothing that does not serve a specific purpose. Every line, every material is designed for long-lasting durability, to move through trends and fashions without being subjected to them. At the cloister, the 2025 Outdoor collection will reveal itself as a natural extension of this philosophy. Seating systems, sofas, armchairs, dining chairs, tables, coffee tables and sun lounger daybeds – a cohesive ensemble of elements that coexist with the same aesthetic harmony with which the architecture of Muzio welcomes light and shadow. New to the collections, the Camelot Outdoor sofa and versatile Oasis family, along with a selection of the brand’s iconic pieces. A design ethos that, like the architecture of the cloister, rejects decoration as an end in itself and focuses on the essential. An aesthetic expression that doesn’t chase time but moves through it.
