Sergio Asti
After graduating in architecture from the Polytechnic University of Milan, Sergio Asti trained in the profession in the Milan of the 1950s. From 1953 to 1958, he was assistant professor of interior architecture at the university.
In the field of Industrial Design, he was among the first in the 1950s to tackle this problem. He was one of the founders of ADI [Association for Industrial Design] of which he is an Honorary Member. He served on various ADI Executive Committees and Labor Commissions. He taught courses in Industrial Design at the Istituto Superiore d'Arte in Venice and abroad at the Shizuoka Experimental Institute in Japan. He held numerous conferences and participated in Round Tables in Italy and abroad, specifically in France, Germany, Portugal, the United States, Japan, China, India and Thailand. He served on many juries for Architecture and Industrial Design competitions in Italy and abroad. Many objects designed by Asti are in the permanent collections of prominent museums and in private collections in Italy and abroad.
His collaboration with Flexform led to the production of the Rolls seating system, designed in the 1970s, featuring curved lines and unlimited modular combinations.
He received many awards on various occasions, including the Milan Triennale, Compasso d'Oro, MoMA in New York, the Philadelphia Museum, Bienale Industrijskega Oblikovanja in Ljubljana, and abroad (France and Japan). He was also invited to produce collective and personal exhibitions: in Italy, Canada, the United States, Japan, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Brazil and France.
